About this item Indoor & Outdoor Use: Yuusei Led outdoor string lights has 2 ways to charging - solar powered and USB. Patio lights string can be used continuously for 12 hours when it’s charged by solar energy for 8 hours. If the outdoor sunlight is not enough, the USB interface can be used to assist charging. 5 Modes:Solid, Breathing Mode, Fast Strobe, Slow Strobe, 25%,50%,75%,100% Brightness.(Dimmer not included, need to get separately, dimmer compatible.) Waterproof & Shatterproof: Solar panels IP65, bulbs IP44 waterproof, heavy-duty overall wire, can be used in a variety of environments from -10℃~45℃, so that they can withstand extreme temperatures, rain, wind, and damp climates. High quality PET material, compared with the traditional glass bulb, it can maintain a longer life which is a commercial grade shatterproof string lights. Energy-Saving String Lights: Put the switch in the ON position, when the light sensor in the solar panel detects that the brightness of the surrounding environment is ≥30 lumens, the garden solar lights will enter the light-off mode automatically. When the surrounding brightness is ≤10 lumens, it will enter the light-on mode automatically. If you want to keep the string lights on during the day, just cover the solar panel with something to keep it away from the light source, it will lights up. Practical & Smart: 180° Adjustable solar panel can be stuck in the grass or screw to the roof. Yuusei solar powered string lights are most popular for perfectly decorate and light up your Decks, Porch, Bistro, Garden, Tents, Backyard, Wedding, Parties, Celebration, Classroom, Bedroom, DIY, Pool Umbrellas or other occasions. Warranty: Yuusei offer 12 months quality warranty. First off I am pleased with the product overall, the minus 1 star is due to combination of a few quirks that would make the product better/more usable. What I liked:* decent length of lights with good spacing* good sized bulbs* plastic bulbs (less risk of breaking in rougher environments - e.g. windy locations)* good brightness for the set - not a spot light but a good ambient lighting level and color* RF remote control (line of sight is not needed as would be with the cheaper IR remote designs)* Use of replaceable 18650 3.7v battery - the battery is attached via a spring loaded holder and not soldered on. Given that batteries wear out faster than solar panels and LEDs this means it should be repairable* Standard DC barrel plug for connecting the lights to the panel - easy disconnect when needed, repairableThe quirks:* While the led controller does remember it's last state (e.g. if sun comes out while it's "on" it will turn "on" automatically when the sun goes down); however, this only applies to on/off. If the last state was a timer mode it will *not* remember that the on state is timer and will keep on until you manually turn it off. This is annoying for a battery operated device since if it turns on automatically this way but it was set for 3hr it will keep running all night instead of powering off when no longer "in use". Remembering the complete previous state would be much more useful.* Light sensor is too sensitive - as the sun goes down I would turn on the lights to provide minor lighting but sensor overrides this and doesn't allow it until it gets much darker thus reducing the useful time the lights can be on for. The sensitivity is tolerable if you only use automatic mode but when manually controlling the lights it isn't as useful.* The light sensor is an absolute on/off switch - the lights and remote do not work if the sensor detects "too much" light (which is very little light to trigger off mode). This means that you cannot override and turn the lights on in low (but not too low) of light settings (e.g. sunset time). Likewise it also means you cannot pre-emptively toggle the led state - e.g. turn the lights on so that as soon as the sensor allow the lights turn on and/or ensure the lights are off and do not turn on when the sensor allows, such as the case when the last state was "on" before the sensor says its too bright - in this latter case you have wait until (or make it) dark enough for the sensor to enable the remote. Bottom line - the sensor appears to be a master power switch for everything *except* the charging circuit, there is no way to override the sensor and make it the lights work in "higher" light environments save for physically covering the panel with something. Note that if you have a lot of ambient light around your panel you may never reach a low enough setting to use the lights.* There is about 8" of extra cord past the last light which appears to be counted in the total length of the string yet there is nothing on the end - no bulb, no hook, etc. just a wire cap. Result: practical string length is about 8" shorter than marketed. To be clear the total length of the strand (the 8" end tail, the lighted section, and the lead from the panel to the first bulb is the advertised length but the lighted length is about 6ft shorter the total length - note that lead section does serve a purpose in some installations, especially if the lights up high and the panel is on the ground so this "extra" wire is potentially useful unlike the tail piece).Other Info (doesn't affect score):* Internal battery is a 18650 3.7v 2200mAh battery - appears to be replaceable when it wears out* LEDs are voltage controlled dimming not current controlled (e.g. 50% brightness does not apply PWM nor current control but instead reduces the voltage by a relative factor) - keep this dimming mode in mind when buying replacement bulbs* LEDs are driven directly from the battery - e.g. there no voltage regulator circuit so bulbs start with ~4.2v and end at ~3.2v (100% brightness, apply dimming reduction to this value as needed). Dimming does not appear to be a linear reduction (e.g. 50% does not imply 2.1v at full charge) - I measured a minimum voltage of ~2.5v at 25% on a full charge. Keep this voltage range in mind too when buying replacement bulbsSafety Note (doesn't affect score):This product uses a Li-Ion battery - do not leave this outside in freezing temperatures (e.g. winter). Li-Ion batteries are not safe to *charge* in freezing temperatures. Fortunately it's not hard to remove the panel/battery from the light string to bring it inside during the cold times.
